WHISPERS OF WELLNESS

A Small Turning

On a wooden table stood a bowl of water.

All morning, it had held the window.

Four panes of pale sky. The shadow of a branch. A little gold where sunlight touched the rim.

A woman sat beside it, carrying a conversation that had ended hours before.

One sentence kept returning.

It had unsettled something she had carefully arranged within herself. Even here, in the quiet kitchen, its meaning would not stay where she put it.

Beside the bowl lay a silver spoon.

She picked it up and drew it slowly through the water.

Once.

Then again, clockwise.

The window loosened.

Its straight edges curved into trembling ribbons. Gold travelled around the bowl. A small hollow appeared at the centre, and the branch’s reflection stretched towards it.

She leaned closer.

The water had seemed so simple a moment before.

Now there was depth in its movement, a shape appearing through the turning.

Her hand slowed.

That sentence returned again.

This time, another meaning moved beside the first.

Perhaps the words had held a kindness she had been too hurt to hear. Perhaps there was still something worth asking.

The spoon touched the rim with a small, clear sound.

She laid it down.

The water continued its turning, carrying the light around and around. Gradually, the hollow softened. The window began to gather itself again.

Beyond the glass, the branch moved in the afternoon air.

The woman reached for a sheet of paper.

For a while, her pen rested above it.

Then a few words found their way onto the page.

Beside her, the bowl grew quiet.

A little gold remained along its rim.
